Ben (Beckett Navarrette) is a powerful business man working for Samsung. Lately, his success has been increasing through the release of the Samsung Galaxy Note 7. Dan (Denzil Tintut) is the vice president of the company; however, it is speculated by the Witches (Sydney Whitcombe and Michelle Drandell) that he may try to steal Ben’s job, along with a few other unfortunate events. Furthermore, Rosaline (Juliana Chen), a friend of Duffy (Hannah Ryan) and her daughter Caroline (Michelle Drandell), the family of Ben, warns about the dangers of Samsung technology, but it could be too late. Last, Dan’s assistant, Julie (Sydney Whitcombe), delivers unpleasant news about the unfortunate turn of events.
The scene begins with a group of children playing on their phones and speak about how badly they want a new smartphone for Christmas. The scene cuts to Ben, and although thriving with success, there’s something on his mind. He tells the other men in his board meeting the problem the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 has been having with great anguish: the phone’s model has some pretty big errors.
The Witches were not in the board meeting, but it’s clear that they know of the smartphone’s problems, too. Together, they look at their phones, reading Twitter messages from unhappy customers complaining that the phones are not up to par. Ben then receives three mysterious snapchats: one tells him that Dan, the vice president, wants to steal his job, another says a Samsung will explode in someone’s face, and the last tells the bleak fate that Ben may lose his job.
Although technology has allowed society to develop in unprecedented ways, the dangers and downfalls to technological advancements are often disregarded. In this movie, Ben, the president of Samsung, is content in knowing that his company is skyrocketing following the release of Samsung’s newest smartphone. However, little does he know that the dangers this phone will present will result in life-changing catastrophes. With the incorporation of prophecies, the portrayal of greed and power, and the idea that technology has simply taken over society, Insane4Dunsinaine presents you with a modern day adaptation of Macbeth. Ultimately, technology has defined modern day life, so it is only necessary to present this development through our film in which every day issues are presented.
Ben, in a desperate frenzy, rushes to consult a Magic 8 ball. When that doesn’t give him a valid answer, he makes the grave decision to fire Dan to avoid any competition against himself. When Dan hears the news, he’s less than pleased. He decides that Samsung doesn’t deserve his hard work anyway and flees the building, his mind set on moving to work for Apple as revenge.
Meanwhile, Rosaline and Duffy chat about the way some of the Samsung smartphones have been problematic lately. Concerned for her friend, Rosaline pushes Duffy to take her and her daughter’s phones into the shop and get it checked out by a professional. Duffy, convinced nothing is wrong with her phone, takes the advice with a grain of salt, but still has concern over keeping her daughter, Caroline, safe.
Soon enough, Caroline and Duffy are in the car together and Duffy decides to bring up the issue. As she urges her daughter not to use the potentially problematic phone, her daughter dismisses it and continues to tweet to her friends. She asks her mother if she could charge her phone, and Duffy reluctantly agrees, afraid that the phone may malfunction while charging. A few minutes later, the phone catches on fire and the car explodes.
When Dan receives the news that his wife and daughter are dead from Rosaline, he is shocked- even more so when he discovers the Samsung smartphone was the root of the deaths. Grief-stricken and appalled at his awful fate, he confides in Rosaline about what he should do. They concoct a plan to file a lawsuit against Samsung, specifically targeting Ben, to receive the justice they feel they deserve.
